PD-Net (EU Project)

The PD-NET project aims to lay the scientific foundations for a new form of communications medium with the same potential impact on society as radio, television and the Internet. The goal is to explore the scientific challenges and to assess the new technologies required to enable the emergence of large scale networks of pervasive public displays and associated sensors.

btLocator

btLocator is a Bluetooth-based (indoor) location system everybody can use by simply activating Bluetooth on their cell phones (or laptops) and registering the address with our btLocator website. The granularity depends on the coverage with Bluetooth scanners. Everybody with a Laptop / PC supporting Bluetooth can install the scanner software as a Windows service running in the background hence helping to increase the precision of btLocator. We plan to announce the Facebook application as a beta soon.

AmbiVis

Since winter 2008 I am project supervisor for the joint project AmbiVis between DoCoMo EuroLabs in Munich and the Pervasive Computing Group at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The project focuses on the visualization of information from the mobile social community IYOUIT.

BlueService

BlueService started from a master thesis at the University of Bonn at focuses on encoding user interests in the Bluetooth string of their mobile phones. Hence it is possible to show content intereseting for users without actually identifying them. We plan to setup a system and run a long term study in a cafeteria in Duisburg operated by the innovation factory.
