This is my current home base. Since I am here only a couple of month I am not yet too familiar with it - yet here is what I discovered so far.
Düsseldorf has some of the densest gastronomy in Germany. You will find Altbier-Kneipen such as the Uerike and Schumacher in the Altstadt as well as all kinds of foreign cuisine. Try out the Menta close to the Medienhafen but don't forget to reserve well in advance.
If you are looking for the student's places go to the Ratinger Strasse, north of the Altstadt. In the evening, try the Medienhafen where you will also find numerous restaurant, cinemas and clubs.
Düsseldorf offers various opportunities to see national and international top sports. It's the home of the famous national hockey team Düsseldorf Metro Stars who play their home games in the ISS Dome. Further it hosts the ARAG World Team Cup each year in May.
The local soccer team Fortuna Düsseldorf (3rd German league) plays in the LTU arena. In the season 2009 Bayer 04 Leverkusen also play their home games in the LTU arena due to the renovation of their stadium.
